Not that I didn't already see it coming but Boise State got screwed!
Thier reward for ANOTHER perfect season....the POINSETTIA BOWL against TCU! Man, I could go on and on about the BCS, NCAA, and thier monopoly but I'll refrain. Bottom line, PLAY-OFF SYSTEM!!!!!
CONGRATS to Utah though....I hope they thump the Crimson Tide!!!!

Yep Boise got hosed! And my Cougars get a boring matchup IMO, but I guess a game is a game.
But, that Boise/TCU game should be fun to watch.
Is it right? No way in all who believe in football. They game was meant to be played on the field, not in the minds of sports writers, coaches and computers.
That said, I do feel somewhat bad for the Utes in that they have to/get to play Alabama. I'm afraid this will not be a game, much the same as the Hawaii/Georgia game last year. Alabama is just to physical of a team.
So far, the best thing our president elect has said is he will do what he can to get a playoff system in Div 1. Heck, if he can pull that off, I just might vote for him in four years! (please don't quote me on this)
Here are my gripes and thoughts (Yes, I am going to get on my soapbox):
1) In my opinion, the big schools DO NOT WANT schools like Boise State to become powerhouses...and they will NOT under the current system. What blue chip high school player wants to go to a school that they know CANNOT EVER BECOME A CHAMPION and WILL NOT get the national exposure that even BAD big schools get (i.e. Notre Dame, Clemson, Tennessee). Take NCAA basketball for example. Little bity Gonzaga makes a spectular run through the NCAA tournement. They got the National exposure and proved that anything is possible with a play-off system. This gave talented kids that may have taken offers from bigger schools a chance to play elsewhere, maybe play quicker, and still have a chance to WIN and GET NOTICED. What happened? Gonzaga is now one of the powerhouse baskeball schools, has made 10 straight tournements, and is ranked in the top 5 in the nation this year. Big school presidents and conference presidents would die if this happened in football...they MIGHT loose recruits, talent, and MONEY to these schools.
2) No big named college football program wants to "suffer" like Oklahoma did after the Boise St game. That game will go down as one of the greatest....and greatest upsets, in NCAA history. Plus, I'm sure that programs like Texas, Florida, Penn State, Ohio St, etc do NOT want to take that chance...especially in a play-off system. In stead of only having to survive ONE game they would then have to survive 2, 3, or 4 games depending on how big of a play-off they have.
3) They say "We play too many games already! Hmmm.....FIRST, YOU HAVE OVER A MONTH LAY-OFF BETWEEN THE LAST GAME AND THE BOWLS in a LOT of cases. Plenty of time. How about taking a look at your freakin' schedules and striking some of those games...like the ones you schedule against DIV II schools just to pad your record! Secondly, DIV II schools seem to manage this just fine.
4) We are concerned that it will effect the players study time/grades. PLEASE, PLEASE don't even attempt to tell me you give a crap about your players grades. I don't believe for a second that ONE of those schools REALLY care...they are forced to at times by the NCAA but it's certainly not of thier own accord. SECONDLY...again, DIV II schools don't have an issue with it and they graduate a whole heck of a lot more players than DIV I does!
There is a LOT more I could say on this but quite frankly I am getting ticked off and my fingers hurt.....
(FYI: I am not a HUGE Boise St fan...just a football fan. If you must know, I am an Oregon St Beaver fan first and foremost)
Oh yea....MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone :))
Yea, I was a little worried about them having to play Penn St in the Rose Bowl. However, I would still rather of had them BEAT THE DUCKS and actually get there first. Then we could have worried about the Nitteny Lions!
Enjoy! lol
BCS DECLARES GERMANY WINNER OF WORLD WAR II... US Finishes Ranked 4th
After determining the Big-12 championship game participants the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.
"Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark,Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against the US and Russia; however considering their entire body of work--including an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule--our computers deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking."
Questioned about the #4 ranking of the United States the BCS commissioner stated "The US only had two major victories--Japan and Germany. The computer models, unlike humans, aren't influenced by head-to-head contests--they consider each contest to be only a single, equally-weighted event."
German Chancellor Adolph Hitler said "Yes, we lost to the US; but we defeated #2 ranked France in only 6 weeks." Herr Hitler has been criticized for seeking dramatic victories to earn 'style points' to enhance Germany's rankings. Hitler protested "Our contest with Poland was in doubt until the final day and the conditions in Norway were incredibly challenging and demanded the application of additional
forces."
The French ranking has also come under scrutiny. The BCS commented "France had a single loss against Germany and following a preseason #1 ranking they only fell to #2."
Japan was ranked #3 with victories including Manchuria, Borneo and the Philippines.
Football was meant to played ON THE FIELD!!!!!
They should have been #1 and National Champs in 2004, they were actually a better team then IMHO.
Gongrats to Utah!
This will go down as one more arguement for a playoff system in college football.
