What would you do?

I hunted this weekend in Nevada and saw several bucks, but couldn't get close enough for a bow (closest was 60 yds, just out of my range).

Each morning, the bucks seemed to feed slowly down the middle of the canyon, not going to water, and then just feeding to their bedding area. The first morning when i stillhunted up the road, I jumped a good four point in the bottom of the canyon, but wasn't close enough, and this morning, when stillhunting up the same general area, saw a herd of 8 bucks (four points, threes, and some big forkies) doing the same thing: feeding slowly downhill in the bottom of the canyon, and, I assume, heading to bedding areas. The first day, after still hunting, I set up next to one of the springs (which is up a side canyon) at 1:30 Pm and stayed there til dark -- nothing. THis morning I hiked to the same spring and got set up an hour before light, then stayed till good light---again, nothing. I didn't see the 8 buck herd until I had left the spring and started back down the same way I came up.

My question is: How do I connect with these deer? They don't seem to be watering in the morning or evening. I think they're watering at night, then feeding till light and heading to bedding areas. Both days the bucks were in the same general area, so should I just set up along this route and hope some deer travel by?

I would set up along that route close to their bedding area and stay down hill because this is usually the direction the wind flows in the morning. Opposite in the evening.

Yes, I'd try and get on their trail or close to bedding area. Not sure if a treestand is an option in your area but that may work. If not find their trail and set up somewhere near and wait them out. It may be long and very tedious work, but patience, patience, patience, when you think you have waited long enough...wait some more.

Good luck! 4c 4c

Me too. "adapt and overcome". If the deer ain't doin what ya want them to do you need to adjust your plans a bit.

Sit on lanes that they are using to travel from thier feeding areas to the bedding areas and hope for the best.
