WHATS YOUR 2015 HUNTING PLANS

Wondering who has any exciting hunts they are starting to plan out allready. I myself am dedicated hunter and am looking forward to spending some great hunting time with my dad even if the deer hunting sucks it's the memories I enjoy the most.

Well, I'm planning to go out of state (I live in California). I hope to go to either Wyoming, Colorado, or Utah, but my buddy and I haven't decided where to apply yet. We would like to go to Utah because it is a much shorter drive, but we have no info on it. We heard it gets really crowded. Do you know anything about hunting in Utah? I sure would appreciate some info on it. I'm with you on just spending some great time hunting with my buddy and his daughter. I hope to get a deer, but a good trip is what I really want. I got my Cabela's Alaknak tent in the mail today and a wood stove is on order. I'm ready for some deer hunting in the snow!

I am dedicated hunter here in Utah the 2014 season was a very tuff hunt for a mature buck. There's no doubt you could get a buck but as far as decent bucks it is some very tuff hunting.

I'm just hoping to draw a Utah tag this year. :) Probably Rifle hunt and hope for the best in the crazy crowded pumpkin patch. :)

Do you hunt down south by where you live Brett?

I'll put in for everything available in CO and should draw a deer tag in our favorite unit. Probably get an OTC tag for a bull elk as I don't see drawing an elk tag this year. May pay a trespass fee to hunt antelope on the eastern slope. And I'll be chasing squirrels and rabbits in between along with upland birds.

I use to hunt 5 different units, mostly Pine Valley or Panguitch now. Zions is a good choice also.

I have seen some quality animals in Panguitch, although I have also been there opening weekend and man it is crowded, but where isn't? hah My family has a couple cabins in the Panguitch unit, so that area and I have some history, caught my first fish in mammoth creek! ha And I am headed up for a little ice fishing on Panguitch lake this weekend. I have seen some nice elk come out of that unit too. Are Pine Valley and Zion similar to Panguitch in vegetation/terrain?

You can thank our local DWR for the crowds in some of the past RAC meeting all they can brag about is that buck to doe rates are doing excellent hurry and issue more tags

Maybe if buck to doe rates were up then where the helll are the mature bucks at during the rutt I have not seen quality bucks during the rut for 15-20 years

Maybe your not looking in the right areas. :-k

I'm just hoping I can hunt the same areas as I did last year.
I'll just buy points on the OIL and LE tags.

Your area may very well have been over hunted the last few years but that doesn't mean the whole unit is that way. I'm just saying it might be time to check out a few different areas, that's all.
I know I have had to.
Good luck this next year.

I'll have my DH tag for the second year. I shot a good buck last year so I'll be holding out for something special or I won't be hunting deer in 2016. For LE I'm debating between an archery pronghorn tag or maybe the new late muzzle loader season for the Zion, or possible archery Pauns...not sure. I'll probably buy a deer and elk point in AZ since I don't have much time to get out of state, got to love school.

Scott702 the north end of the Zion is very similar to Panguitch but the southern end is much lower pinyon/juniper country. The same can be said for the Pine Valley.

I apply in many states. And I apply for my nephews in many states. We will get some fantastic tags this year. I am pretty sure we will get 3 killer deer tags and 1 great elk tag. We are in the running for 2 more great elk tags. In the running means 50% odds of drawing. The pretty sure tags means it is >75% chance of drawing.
But how we do that is apply in many states. And the youth tags really help out.
2014 will be hard to beat. Because the kids shot 4 good mule deer. 1 in Idaho, 2 in utah, 1 in Colorado. And my 1 nephew drew the youth elk tag in Utah and shot a nice 5x6 for his first elk. I think most of these animals are bigger than I will ever get. But I get to go with them and it is fun. It is real fun to be there when the kids get something big.

I'm hoping to draw a muley buck tag for muzzy season. I'll be using a .45 Kentucky muzzleloader, PRB, and open sights.

I'm editing this post because I think we've finally decided what we're going to do this year; barring something better reveals itself. Right now we're planning on making a trip to Lake Meredith, TX to try a public land hunt for mulies and/or whitetails. We were planning a trip to OK but a public hunt trip here in my home state is a lot cheaper than anything else.

My 12 year old daughter drew her second year in a row bull elk tag in AZ, so we have that to look forward to. My cousin drew the same tag, so I have two bulls to find this year. M daughter's second bull, and my cousin's first! Deer applications are in and awaiting the draw.

My plans changed from the muzzy hunt to a 2nd rifle season buck tag. As of right now i'll still use the muzzy.

Drew unit 2B rifle deer in NM for the second time in 3 years and also drew oryx and javalina tags. Not settling for a small buck in 2B again this year, I am going to scout hard and look for a big boy. Really excited for the oryx hunt too. Also finally starting to see the quail population rebound in NM, so I will be chasing tiny birds across many miles of desert!

I'll be chasing velvet clad mule deer in NV during the archery season (August). I'll also be hunting rutting whitetail in Kansas the first week of November.
Maybe I'll draw a CA Tule Elk tag and get to chase them too? :) (dreaming)

I'll be waiting for the leftover tags list to come out and then standing in line trying to get something.

Needless to say, I didn't draw anything. Worse comes to worse I'll get an OTC bull tag.

last year was my first year hunting for Muley's since I was 12..27 years later, I got my first buck. Will do more scouting this year, but drew out for the same Wasatch, West. We will hit the same area as we saw plenty of Bucks.

Don't like the crowds...get out of the truck! Hike in at LEAST a mile off the road.

Pics man pics.

Just got my cameras out a couple of weeks ago for my Pahvant bull tag. Chomping at the bit to go and check them.

Can't believe that there are only 27 days left till the hunt.

Good luck everybody.

My younger daughter (13 y.o.) and my cousin have the same bull elk hunt in November, so I will be trying to get two bulls on the ground this fall.
My cousin also drew a Kaibab deer tag, so I will be helping on that one too.
My older daughter (24 y.o) and her husband both drew deer tags, but we are waiting to find out what unit and what hunt. So I will be helping on that hunt too,
I have to wait and see if my younger daughter, wife, or I drew any deer tags too.
So I have a busy fall planned.

I have a general muzzleloader buck deer tag, a general OTC muzzleloader any bull tag, and cow elk tag all for the same area as the family cabin in Utah.
I also have a pair of unit 99 doe pronghorn tags in Wyoming. This was my first foray into applying in a state outside of UT.

Try 'highlighting' or clicking on the video in your DRIVE. After it's highlighted, you'll see a several buttons appear in the top right corner. The far left one, is a GET LINK button. Click that and copy and paste the URL there into your forum message here. That's what works for me on videos on Google Drive anyway.

I plan on hunting the same area, just further in this year. Lots of does, some bulls in the canyon next to us, plenty of moose running right through our camp (6' away from my 12 yr old son) that one would have gone down fast if he got aggressive
best of all, plenty of bucks!

main plan is really just to fill both tags!

My cousins boy just informed me he was contacted by the DWR today and he now has a big bull tag for my same area someone turned in their tag and he was next up. Going to be a fun hunt as I was already hunting with him and his dad. :thumb

Had a pretty good day today at the local licensing agent as leftover tags went on sale this morning. When I say local, I mean to me, not the masses. I was first there and only two other folks showed up. Gave them my list of hunt codes and got tags for all of them. 2 elk, 1 deer and 1 antelope. All antlerless but when the meat is on the plate you can't tell a difference. I'll be able to hunt from Sept 1 through Jan 31. Plus I'll be helping out friends and family on their hunts and my wife on her first ever big game hunt.

So going from not drawing a tag to be probably the busiest hunting season I've ever had. Not too bad!

Passed on a solid 160" buck today.....went out this evening and left the inline buck in a bowls with some other bucks. Just wasn't a good set-up to get in on him without blowing him out........man this is a nice buck. Maybe tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay......the inline buck has disappeared.....frustrating. Passed a buck yesterday that I might end up regretting. Few more days to make it happen.
