Where would you go?

I am new to hunting Elk dont know where to go honestly this is the start of my reserch. I am a Whitetail hunter have hunted in many states along with a few provinces in Canada. Actually I am doing this for my brother, he wants to bring his father in law hunting Elk and also knows nothing about it. I am looking for referals on places to go (Guided hunt). They can not afford the big places I would say their price range would go to about 7000. This would probably be a one time thing so throphy is nice but also just a chance to get one. I know how trophy hunting go's and if you are a trophy hunter you are usually going home empty handed more than not!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

That would be for each. I would say anywhere from 4-7 thousand, this is the price range I told him I would look for.

Not to discourage you in the least, but this may not be the best site to find a good outfitter. Most folks on here do the DIY type of hunts and can give you plenty of help in that area. But I do think being as this will be the first, and maybe only, time hunting elk a guide is the best way to go. If I could point you in the right direction I certainly would. Hopefully, someone on here can help you with your request.

Oh, ::wel to MM and keep us posted on your successes! We do have a whitetail section so please feel free to post up some of your pics in there!

look at e JICCARILIA [sp?] apache indian res. when i was guideing next to that res it was awsome on there borders. and people was paying the same price to hunt there as they were to hunt on are private ranches. i believe back then it was $6000 that was 5 yrs ago or so they could have gone up but at that time i would have said it was by far one of the best bargains out there!

Do they want a caned hunt, Pay 7 grand a piece and drive out and shoot the bull they want or do they want an actuall hunt, Trophy doesnt always mean the size of the animal but the experience of the hunt and HONESTLY if this is a once in a life time deal I would suggest a real hunt it makes alot better story than I drove out in this field and shot this elk. I would stay away from the poaching for wildlife ranches in Colorado more times than not a good guide in on or around any decent area can find decent bulls, in Colorado. If it were me and depending on their hunting abilitys I would just buy a landowner tag for Utah I think there are still a few units selling for 5-7 grand. good luck

Not looking for a (Canned Hunt), looking for free ranging hunt. Just looking for a resonable hunt with a chance at a good bull also like you said just a all around memorable hunt.
