A whiper is a cross between a white bass and a striper. They don't breed naturally, the eggs and sperm are mixed in a hatchery to create them. From what I've read, they always use the female of one fish (either eggs or sperm) and the male of the other, and always the same order. For example, they always use the male white for sperm and the female striper for eggs, and never the other way around. However, I'm not sure which fish is actually used for which.

Pound for pound I can't think of a better fighting fish. I friend of mine caught a 13lb Whiper on his fly rod.

A two pound fish will make you think you have a 10 pounder online.

I had no idea what a whiper was, but once I saw the pic I figured it was a hybrid between the two.

On another note, I'd have to say the toughest fighting fish I've ever caught is a red fish. Hit harder than all get out and never quit. Mighty fine tasting, too!
