Wild pigs test positive for pseudorabies

FULLERTON, Neb. The state Department of Agriculture says wild pigs killed in east-central Nebraska's Nance County have tested positive for pseudorabies.

The department says tests on swine being raised by producers in the area found that none of those hogs carried the disease.

Pseudorabies is contagious viral disease that, while not considered a threat to humans, can devastate pork operations. Symptoms include respiratory illness, trembling, sudden death of piglets and pregnant female aborting.

Pseudorabies was also discovered last month in wild pigs found in central Nebraska's Platte County.
