Wildfires

As every Western Hunter knows wildfires can be a killer for hunts planned well in advance. I am going to hunt South Central Colorado in October so I am watching a very good website that list all wildfires in the US. The one I use is http://www.geomac.gov They use several agencies in there report. BLM, USFS, US fish and game, and others.
I will be hunting Units 80, 81 in Colorado if anyone knows of anything that would affect that hunt I would really appreciate a heads up.

Honestly, I would worry about other people screwing up your hunt rather than a wildfire. I have hunted in wildfires and have had big bucks walking through the smoke right in front of me. Good luck.

I put this here as a tool for people hunting in states that they don't live in. To be Frank I think if you are hunting in a wildfire you are in a small minority. I lost out on a Elk hunt years ago in Southwestern Colorado because of a wildfire.
Of course you may be a mad genius by having the fire push the animals to you instead of going to get them:)

I don't advise anyone to hunt in or nearby an active fire. The fire I was talking about was contained and had a containment line all the way around it and the firefighters were just going to burn itself out. It was one of the firefighter that gave me the tip that they had seen some very large bucks in the area. The big problem with fires in your area is that the fire agencies may close down all nearby roads for the public safety and that really sucks but the next few years after a burn can be some awsome hunting. The mnt. in my back yard is on fire again for the 3rd time this year.
