WILDLIFE PHOTO/ART CONTEST FOR PUBLICATION

We are busy writing and editing the new bowhunting record book for Arizona. This will be the 5th Edition of Bowhunting In Arizona, which was first printed in 1980. It is a very nice hardback book with dust jacket, which is currently printed every 8 years by our non-profit corporation. It is not only a record book, but we pride ourselves on producing one of the most educational bowhunting books available, especially for hunting in Arizona (but not exclusively). We list the number of entries of each species on an Arizona hunt unit by unit basis. We have graphs and tables showing the most successful hunting styles, times of day, and many other items on a species by species basis, using the entries in the book to establish them. This book is truly an example of how entering a record book can do much more than just seeing your name in a book. It is really geared towards educating the bowhunter through its articles, photographs and tables. You can view our website, past/current issues of the book/and photos of State Records at:

We are currently seeking high quality photos of each Arizona big game species and small predators (coyote, bobcat, grey fox) or wildlife art depicting same, for use in the new edition. These are to be live photos of each species, not trophy photos. If we choose to use your item, you will be given a complimentary copy of the book when it is printed. While the photos do not have to have been taken in Arizona, we cannot use photos that are obviously taken outside of Arizona or species that do not occur in Arizona, photos of small game, etc. We may use a limited number of drawings, paintings, photos of bronzes or other art for covers or illustrations inside the book. If you would like to submit something for consideration, please email it to me at:

AZOutdoorsman@cox.net

Once we narrow down the entries to the few we are considering, we may require them to be submitted as 8 x 10 prints for the final consideration, but I don't want to limit entrants by requiring that of all applications. We don't have a final date for entries at this time, but sooner would be better than later! Good luck!

We don't have a deadline, per se. We are busy writing the book, and compiling the record book entries into the database. We are hoping to have the book printed by very late spring to early summer. Our next meeting to review what we have so far is in late March. I'm not sure at what point we will finalize the photos, but sooner is better than later. However, since we all won't be meeting together again until March, I'd say you have at least until then. We haven't received a lot of the small predators, grey fox, bobcat and coyote if anyone has some good shots of any of those. Also, large predators like lion and black bear have been scarce.
