Winchester model 100

About a tear ago, my ex-wifes grandfather gave me Winchester model 100. I just now looked up the serial number. Manufactured in 196 ](*,) ](*,) 4 243 caliber with an old bushnell 4x scope. holy crap. Its had 6 shells shot through it and is 99% { missing the red w end cap) I figugured its would value around $300.00 Nope closer to $800.00. Now I dont dare shoot it

Yep, if were a '63 it would be worth a bit more. I've got a couple of pre-64 Winchesters that will never leave the family. One will be going to my niece and the other to my nephew when the time comes.

I remember the model 100's and the model 88 levergun which looked like it. They didn't sell well and had some problems with firing pin breakage, but if you replaced it they were fine rifles. Because there were few made they are worth a premium. My neighbor had one he killed deer with for years. Nice rifle.

Why not shoot it? If you bought a Weatherby Mark IV would you not shoot it? I have a 03-A3 built by Paul Jaeger in 1945 that was given to me by a friend when he died. It was hs present to himself when he got discharged from the Army. Had it apprasied about 10 yrs ago at $7500. I shoot it! Much to nice not to shoot. Besides that, Bud would want me to shoot it.

I agree with you, Don, unless one is a collector and overly concerned with the values of firearms. I've got a Win Mod 94 in .32 Win Special built in 1954. I received it from my mom on my 21st bday, many years ago...lol, and still hunt with it. She bought it when she was 17 so she could go hunting with her dad. I do have a .30-30 but rarely even pull it out.

Great posts guys and thanks for your input. I have the original box of shells he bought in 64 with 4 missing. Dont think I'll be shooting those.

Good for you! Cool gun. I have a model 100 and a model 88, both in .308. Both given to me by my wife's grandfather. I prefer the 88 and it is my primary big game rifle. They don't make them like these any more. Enjoy it, they are fun.
