Would you? A hypothetical...

Got this email a while ago, don't even know if it is true, but lets say it is....Would you?
So here is the story.....A guy who had a North Cache County muzzle loader permit, he had not been successful yet and had went home to shower and re-stock. Well on his way back to camp he runs up on these two guys in a strange predicament, they had this big Bull Elk all wound up in a barbwire fence and trying to get him out! Like how do you get a mad Bull Elk untangled from a 1/2 mile of Barbwire? SO he asked who owned the property and the older gentleman said he did and said if you have a tag, please help us.
What would you do?
There is no way to get close enough to get him out of the mess, your in the middle of nowhere (Randolph foot hills), by the time the Fish and Game got there he would have killed himself, it's within your hunting unit, you have the land owners permission, Or if they did happen to get him kinda cut out he would have died with anything that was still attached.

Cool pics, sad deal. He looks dead already in the pics though? I would try to FREE him FIRST. If I was unsuccessful in doing so then yes I could/would put my tag on him. :thumb

Agree'd with Brett, if there was absolutly no way of getting him un-tangled i would use up my tag so he didn't have too suffer threw anything like he might be going threw. And POSSIBLY ask the G&F if there's anyway to Renew the tag maybe???

first i would hope someone else drove by that would love that chance, if not i'd have to give it some thought. i dont know really, i'd like to say yes- but i can see another side of me saying no.
in all honesty, everyone of them would be able to put that bull out of his misery and not get into trouble, take the pictures , shoot it, and call fish and game and explain.

but i dont think i could just cut my once in a life time tag on it .

it's not a matter of just putting him out of his misery, cause you could do that without cutting your tag. it's if you just want to be done with the tough hunt, and not have to "deal" with the autorites for a couple hrs.

so my final answer? shoot the bull , call fish and game, kill an eavening explaing { with pictures} and continue my hunt that will now just have a cooler story:)

I have to agree with Killer on this one. I wound't tag it unless I wasn't going to be able hunt the rest of the season.

I agree with Killer and Sneekee. Sad deal for sure.

After eating lunch I have had time to digest this further and I would probably tag it.

By the looks of the pictures, that elk would have never gotten out of that mess alive. I would not have hesitated to put my tag on him. I've been in a situation similar to this with a two point deer that had been wounded by another hunter earlier in the day. It was apparent the deer was seriously wounded, and instead of holding out for a bruser, I taged out on the injured buck. Have no regrents knowing I did the right thing.
That is a nice bull too. Easy to load into the truck. No question, I would have tagged out with that bull. Congrats to the hunter for doing the right thing! :thumb

Been there, done that, and cut my tag on it. Really wasnt a question for me. I hate seeing an animal suffer. "Mine" wasnt as big as the one in the pictures, but it was still worth it to not have to let the animal suffer.

i would have tag the bull instantly but i would have left the wire on it. would make a neat conversation piece.

I agree that the Bull needs to be put down so he doesn't suffer, But i would call Fish and game and see how they wanted to deal with it. whether i had a once in a life tag or a general tag i would not burn my tag on him. it is not much different then if one was hit by a car and suffering it needs to be put out of its misery, but i wouldn't tag it either.
