Yes, and I hope to be one of the 1st to legally hunt them in wyo.

I think you need to spend some time studing them before you get your tattoo. Yes they did do Yellowstone park eco sys some good because other than lions there were no predators. but that stops 1 foot out of the park. Thats were us humans come in to play. We try to manage the herds with hunting. We try to keep the herds at a resonable number.
There is a reason why they hunt them from airplanes in Ak. when you get to many of them they can wipe out the herds.

I hope that I have the very first tag that is released in this state to hunt them. I'm not saying kill them all but I think that they should be heavily controlled. I would hate to see all the work that the division of wildlife go down the tubes to feed a bunch of wolves.

Your statement that they only take the old and sick, what about the lamb’s, calf’s (live stock) the elk calf’s, deer fawns and Antelope fawns. I know all of them will be sick and old in the further, but that is not right now. Wolves are opportune feeders. They will feed on anything they can pull down.

Please do the research and learn about these killing machines.

The way to controls wolfs is though the use of superior knowledge. Baiting will only work so long. Use a medium caliber and a good scope, will work on every wolf that steps outside of Yellowstone.

I agree with Big Buck---Kill 'em all

I think it’s only a matter of time before the ranchers in N Utah start having problems with the wolves. Killing all the livestock and putting the ranchers out of business because the *****wolves are protected. I have watched video on wolves killing for the thrill of it and leaving the animals to rot.

A good friend of mine guides elk hunts on the border of Yellowstone. He says that when the wolves hear the gun shot they immediately head towards the kill. You have 15-20 min to get the animal packed out before they are hot on your trail. He’s had numerous follow him to the camp. They have to keep the kill 1/2 miles away from the camp site so they won’t have any problems in camp.

They are not good for the ecosystem DA. Why do you think WY just took them off the endangered list? They breed like rabbits and then the new pack spread onto new territory and takes over.
I believe if the elk and deer herds are getting out of hand the DWR needs to issue more tags. Simple enough??
My personal thoughts.. Im leery to go shed hunting by myself with the thoughts of wolves stalking me..
I pack my gun every time I go.

It's proven that Wolves have been in Utah since at least 2001. They have also been in Colorado for a while now. Here's a interesting link if you guys want to research out their movements.

Thats just my opinion i just think when some of you guys say kill em all i just get irritated when they are so good for the environment. im actually so fascinated by them that in a couple months im actually getting a tattoo of one on my back lol. Sorry didnt mean to ramble on but thats just my opinion. whats yours?

You may say that now. Wait untill they hit Utah and you have no more Dear or Elk to hunt. Wait untill you turn your pack of hounds loose and when you get to the tree with nothing but dead dogs. You think they only kill the old and week. You better do some research on that or go back to your Bunny Freinds. KILL THEM ALL

I have seen many many many topics or tv shows about wolves and how they take down the old and weak(fawns and calves) but i know like i said with limited permits is understandable like i said i asked for a answer not a bunch of smart alick comments. I asked if you would hunt them. Also bigbuck92 think about what you posted the wolves were protecting their territory thats common sense.Dont mean to be A jerk but you guys were ridiculous about it. :>/

you should start watching t.v. channels that aren't run by tree huggers. if that is all you've seen you really need to get more info. not being rude at all. note: absolutly everyone said you need to do more research..... that probably means something. it has been proven 1000's of times that wolves do not just kill the old and sick. i'm sure if you check into it you will get some facts on them.

Personally I don't have any problem with wolves being in Idaho. What I have a huge problem with is introducing a predator into an ecosystem and then letting it go unchecked for over 12 years! I think wolves can coexist in an ecosystem with man and other animals however they should be managed very aggressively or you will see the types of problems we are having here in Idaho, and elsewhere for that matter. I also don't think saying "Kill em all" is doing anybody any good as it's never gonna happen in our day and age. But states like Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming are starting to put management plans into action and I think we should push these plans as much as possible. As sportsman we should have to make our voices louder than the "other guys"!

i said this before. wolves are good in some areas. if you get to many of them then its bad. but wolves are elks and deers natural predetorsnow in yellow stone thats to many wolves. but a small number of wolves is proven to be good for the wildlife. they take out the sick the weak the old the injured. so im siden with jersey boy on this one.

If the Wolfs only take out the sick the weak the old the injured then yes I would agree. But for those of you that live down were there are no wolf don't under stand. Every week end I go out I see this they kill just for the sport not for food. Do you suport poachers I don't thinks so, so then why would you suport wolfs. They got wiped out from the old timers for a reason. There will be a day that will come when the suporters on here for wolfs will under stand when they have nothing more to hunt. The hunts here in Idaho have already been shorten this year because of the wolf so ask you self again if you would shoot a wolf.

give me proof that they kill for sport thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard once again keeping the population under control is completely understandable i agree with that. But kill em all c'mon now think about that why would you do that they are good for the environment when they are in controlled numbers. I live in Idaho and have seen wolves in my hunting areas and I continue to hunt them and I am pretty successful with it.
But I am not for or against the wolf. I will get a tag and fill my tag every chance I get. Just another hunting season I will have.
But the one thing I do think is stupid is the ignorance and the closed minds of anyone on a debate that two sides will fight and bring into there own facts about an issue. That link that was shown or attached up a few replies. Something about showing elk and deer allegedly killed by wolves. Come on guys you are hunters and can pick up sign of what is true and what is not. Where are the throats, ham strings or any other signs of a wolf tearing or killing them. I will agree some of these animals may have been killed and eaten them. Look at most of the animals more than likely died of starvation and the birds pecked at them. No tracks around them with the fresh blood around.
Then you have the kill them all mentality. WTF is that ? Most guys that I have talked to about this with the same mentality is the ones where I have game hanging in camp and they come into camp saying the same thing but they are either on a 4 wheeler or driving the roads. But at least I try to talk to them and explain if they where to get out or off and do a little hiking they could find the game. But then again if we where to kill them all when will the season be for us to hunt them? I want another animal to hunt here in Idaho. Just means one more reason why I like Idaho.
Just remember one TRUE FACT about wolves is they co exist in Canada with 1000's and 1000's in the wild and look at the trophy animals that come out of those area's.Plus they get to hunt wolves. What a concept. Also another thing to remember once the first shot gets fired at a pack you will more than likely never get another shot at that pack again. They will get smarter like all other animals do with the more hunters there are.
But to answer the question of this post.
Count me in on a wolf tag when it comes.

Mack Daddy Muley
Here is why many of us have the kill em all logic. Time and time again we have seen them mutilate elk and deer for fun, and these are not timberwolves that were reinturduced in idaho, the wolves released are not even native to this country side. Most are tired of seeing it and hearing about it happening. The deer numbers are on the decline anyway, without the wolves hunting them down. Bad timing on the feds part is most of the problem. The wolves were reintroduced into a different time where there are more roads and people in the back country, not like the way it once was. There is less room for both the elk, deer and wolves to cohabitate. This means the elk have less places to hide to get away which means more wolf kills. Domestic dogs kill and chase for fun... so what would stop a wolf. They are both canines are they not. Heck, domestic cats kill for fun. Ever see a house cat kill a mouse and just play with it. Its not hungry, just wants to play. Now this is where the problem comes into play with the wolves. There are not enough elk and deer and country side for the wolves to kill for fun, just as other canine and feline do. The wolves will never survive in a cow grazing, home building, road building society we live in today. There is just simply not enough room for it all to work. There is half the back country that there once was. That to me is why there should be no wolves in the lower 48.

supersider34
One thing more is I can not wait till the tags come out because I can not wait to hear the next excuses come out why no one gets a elk or deer or whatever. I hear every year from numerous people about the area's they hunt are over run by wolves. How they see them. I have told them if they see a wolf two the three times on hunting trips up close and personal then when the tags come out they better be showing me pics of them with a wolf and 9 times out of 10 the guys shut up.
I hunt and have many successful seasons in wolf infested area's. So maybe in other area's they are worse than the one I am in. Have yet to come upon mass numbers of just dead or wantoned killed animals. But who knows maybe one of these years the wolves in my area will decide to just start killing for the fun or it and run out of there food source.
But like I said I am not for or against just hate listening to ignorance of people. I did meet the guy for that website over at the archery shop and the guy was a ignorant *&^. Tried to push his BS on me and my wife. That is one guy that I would never ask to head up anything for me or a cause. A total idiot. Might mean alot to people that can not think for themselves. He got right in my face and my wifes and told us we where wrong on what we thought. Made me realize why I join no clubs.
Good luck this season as mine is planned and hopefully I will have some wolf pics to post.

Mack Daddy Muley
Are you saying they should illegally shoot the wolves they see while hunting just to give you a picture...? I may be in the back country by myself, but my morals will come into play here. I will NOT shoot a wolf without a proper tag, if I were to go back into military or something, I would have that wolf I shot in my head when they ask, "have you ever broke the law....." No thanks. I am heading to Challis soon and will have my camera on standby just for you, so you can see what I have seen. One particular occasion I was horseback and saw four wolves chase down a doe, kill her, played with her, and left. "Dogs" do that, and by "dogs" i mean wolves. Needless to say I put my horse in the trailer and left. Last thing I need is for them to come into camp and kill my horse for sport. She stays tied up, perfect for a fast, fun, kill. I have seen elk with neck wounds lying dead during hunting season. One elk calf came into our camp for protection. I guess she figured it was better to stay with us then to be chased by wolves. She came in one night around one am. We watched her all night to see if the wolf would come in after her, luckly for her, it didn't. She stayed within 100 yards of camp while we were there. We couldn't bring ourselves to shoot her even though we had cow tags. During that day we followed her tracks back to some buck brush where we found wolf tracks like it had been pacing back and forth waiting for her. It must have got discused and left. I will add there was a good couple inches of snow on the ground for good tracking. Its instances like those that have caused my way of thinking. Again, these wolves are not our native wolves. Another thorn in my side. Who knows, I might feel differently if they were timberwolves, our native wolves. I guess we may never know.
15
supersider34
You got poaching out of my response?????? WOW. Read it several times and nothing there flashed that.
As far as the species of wolf that they transplanted. Another one of the topics that guy brought up in his ramblings. So if they put back the same species that was here it would be ok. That a funny arguement.

I have seen and read some of the stories of the hunters on this site and I would be more fearful to have them in my hunting area's than some wolves. These hunters I have alot of respect for and I consider them more of a predator than a whole pack of wolves. Doesnt matter what state they are from. I guess if they are not from Idaho I would not worry. LOL
15
Mack Daddy Muley
lol Poaching wolves... na, j/k. However I said it might be different if they were our native wolves. I didn't say it would be ok if only if only they were timberwolves.. like the hound on the vid. Just a thorne in my side that I just can't seem to shake loose.

ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT AT ABOUT 20 FEET... SOLVED HIS PROBLEM RIGHT THERE.... IF HE HAD MINDED

SINCE THERE IS PRACTICALLY AN ENDLESS SUPPLY OF COYOTES....ILL JUST STICK WITH THEM...

Wolves have their place in the national parks and the wilderness up north where people do not control herd numbers like they do in the lower 48. Keep the wolves there and I have no problem with them. Let them loose on all public lands and soon we won't have deer or elk to hunt. Also what about all the free grazing cattle we have here in the west. I can only imagine what kind hay day wolves have when they get into a herd of cattel or sheep. As long as they keep spreading the more tags need to be given out.
15

I'd kill every freakin' one I see, if they end up here. If they want to unjustly put them here, without the consent of the general public, and destroy the rest of our hunting, we'll kill however many wolves we want to make up for it. That wouldn't bother me one bit, if they get rid of our other hunting oppurtunities, we'll make it known that it isn't right and we aren't going to take their crap. It's just one more card they're playing against hunting and firearms. We don't need wolves here, and wolves don't need to be here.

To answer the post question, I hope I never have the chance. At least I hope I never have the chance in Utah. I know there are a few wolves that have made it into Utah since the Yellowstone packs were reinstated. I hope the numbers of wolf in utah do not get large enough to justify tags. If the numbers do get large enough to issue tags then I would be in. To me wolves would be a pretty scary animal to hunt. They are super smart and operate in packs. If I did hunt them, I'd probably have a couple of thirty round clips and an AR-15 shouldered.

I try not to ever let a wolf get away when the opportunity exists. My number one on the list for hunitng is muley deer, so i figured this was a perfect site for me. As for anything else in BC I have pretty much hunted everything BC has to offer except for sheep, but that will soon be changing hopefully.

Last season i hunted mountain goats, mule deer, whitetails, moose, elk, wolves, black bears, and hopefully this spring, grizzlies. I love BC for the variety of species we have and the public land to chase them on. I can't see myself living anywhere else.
