So my Buddy talked me into going with him to Wy to hunt Antelope. We have Buck tags and he said we will be hunting around Casper Wy. Anyone have any pointers for me or the area. I have only taken antelope in my home state Idaho with a bow. Never even been to Wy my buddy tells me it should be off the hook for Antelope. He lives back there in Casper.

I'll be using my Rem. 308. it's set up to take 500 yards shots and shoots to 500 yards quite well. I will be using a 150 gr SST bullet, MV 3000fps. Will this set up work? it's that or my Rem. 300 ultra mag. with 180 gr MV 3200 FPS. thats my elk gun.
Do you know anything about the wind out there or what the weather will be like we our going the first week of October. What would be a good size buck to shoot for that area? In Idaho I have seen some bucks right around that 17 maybe 18 inch mark. I would like to get a good one for the wall. Looking at some where around 15+.
The 308 with 150gr SST should do really well. Of the dozen or so antelope that I've shot, and a couple have been shot in that area, I've never had to take a first round shot at more than 200yds. I've put a few finishers in at 400 but even those were for my own peace of mind. The antelope were already dead on their feet. Antelope aren't particularly tough creatures but they have a disproportionately large circulatory system and it takes a lot of wrecking to get them to quit.
I'd apply for a unit like 86. Your chances of drawing that unit quite frankly stink without preference points. BUT also put in for the doe tags. You'll likely get doe tags. Go out and hunt does and scout bucks. If you can't swing it every year, go every other year and buy a preference point on the years you don't go and hunt. One day, you'll get drawn and you'll know just what you are looking for and probably where to find it.
