Wyoming Hunt Info

I'm looking to hunt Wyoming for the first time and have a few questions. I have the 2008 Non Resident Hunting Information Booklet, so I am some what dangerous with what I think I don't know. #-o

I think I understand the fact that in some regions there are limited quota hunts and that if I'm drawn for a region general license I can not hunt in the limited quota areas.

My question: Does this mean that there are an unlimited amount of non resident general license regional tags? In other words, if I just apply for a specific region and not a limited quota hunt am I almost guaranteed a non resident general license tag for the region I apply?

I don't know where to start as to picking an area, I hear good things about the Cody area in Region F, and have a friend wanting to know more about the area near Baggs Region E. We prefer to hunt public lands. Obviously some research for BLM lands is needed but just looking at a BLM map doesn't tell us the area has any deer or a spot to camp.

My questions: Are these regions worthy? What do you prefer? I have no points, should I bother applying for a limited quota hunt?

One thought that occurred to me is applying for a limited quota as a 1st choice and paying for the preference point, then the regional general as my second choice. Then at least if I don't get lucky I can start building the points and still hunt in the region general. (I'm sure this is typical procedure for most applicants, right?)

Don't laugh at me but I have to ask, Without giving away your top secret hunting grounds and camping areas, can anyone possibly point me in the right direction for areas to camp and hunt? [-o<

We don't need no running water or bathrooms, and prefer to not be in the same spot as 200 other hunters.

Feel free to PM me and thanks for any and all help! :thumb

Where to start,

Limited Quota areas are not included in the Regions that can be drawn. Regions consits of a group of Generel areas that are grouped together to give NR hunters more area to hunt. Limited Quota areas must be applied for seperatly of Regions.

Resident can buy one General deer permit and there is not a limit to how many residents can purchase licenses. The General permit for residents allows a resident to hunt any area within the state that is not limited quota. But Non Residents are only issued a certain number of tags even for Regions or General areas, so you are not even close to guaranteed a license. Most regions have a very small success rate without any preference points built up. The Regions you listed have a less then 20% success rate for drawing without any preference points.

I don't know where to tell to hunt that is up to you. Just remember the Western half of the state is mostly Public while the eastern is mostly Private.

Regions vary as far as odds of NR's drawing. Has a lot to do with hunters success, or quality of the hunt. For instance Region E is almost 100% first time draw for NR's and lots of public land. There are scattered good populations of Mulies, but there are reasons Residents tend to chose to hunt other areas.
