Wyoming region D Questions???

My father and I drew tags for region D and I am looking for all the info I can get. We are planning on hunting Medicine Bow (BLM maps are ordered as well) --what type of hunting should we expect--spot-n-stalk or stillhunting? I am in good phsical shape but not great--are certain ares easier hunting? Are there any other public lands in the region worth looking in to?
Thanks in advance for any help.

mikeyson, never hunted there before but wanted to welcome you to the site. This is a great place to find the information that you need, provided we have someone onboard that has hunted there.
Anyway, congrats on the draw, good luck, and let us know how it goes (Pictures are always welcome)

I've spent a lot of time in the area, but 1st you need to answer a few Questions. are you going to camp or stay in a cabin or hotel. are you looking for big trophy deer or good respectable bucks.
I mainly glass for muleys witch means you nead a good pair of binoculars, I not saying you need to spend 900$ but a pair of 60$ will not cut it.
We have a stupid rule about non-res not being able to hunt wilderness with out a guide, both the ranges have some wilderness.
For 1st time hunters area 80 from Jack creek southward to Encampment holds a lot of deer and a lot of areas to glass from. the Deer pop. is good there with some good bucks mixed in. remember you can hunt all state, BLM and Nat. Forest land as long as you can get there on a public road.
getting there a day or so early will help you get use to the alitude and give you a chance to do some scouting.
spend some time now with you binocular it will help you when you start glassing for an hour at a time.
Bring a pack and read up on how to quarter a deer. ( remember you MUST leave proof of sex on the hind quarters) this will help on how far you can go to get your deer.
I hope this will get you started.

Good advice from Larry. I have hunted Region E to the West a good bit, I think its close to the same Muley hunting as D. Rugged mountains to Sagebrush flats, every type of terrain. Most all good Muley country. You won't have any trouble finding public land. I've been boneing out all my big game for years, that packing out the meat is a big project, and you don't want to pack out anything you can't eat. Except the antlers/cape.
Its not easy but you need to leave sex attached, never had it checked however.
Glassing and stalking is fun and works well, so does still hunting, I mostly use the combination of both. usually ending up a long way from the truck.Thats often where you find the big guys.

Good Luck
