Wyoming Unit 158

1st time poster, been lurking for awhile. Nice site!! Just found out I'm going to Wyoming for Mule Deer sometime between Oct.1-14. My buddy has been to this ranch the past 3 years with good results. I checked the dfg website and there are still tags left for deer and antelope. My question is with only 3 or 4 days to hunt would it be wise to get an antelope tag too of just concentrate on the deer? If anyone has any knowledge of the unit (north and east of casper) I would love to hear about it!

Good Hunting to everyone here!!

OHIOFLATLANDER, welcome to MuleyMadness! Glad you made the "leap" and signed on.
Wish I could help ya on your question about the area but I have never hunted that region. I'm sure someone here at MM can help ya out though.
As for the question about whether or not to buy both tags...I guess your buddy can help ya out there. You stated that he has had good success on the ranch, right? How long, on average, did it take him to fill his tag? If he's able to fill it within a couple days then your golden. In my personal opinion, if I had the money I would go ahead and buy both and then wish for the best...LOL
Of course, I guess it also comes down to personal preference. If ya have both tags in your pocket and come across a nice speadgoat while chasing mulies then maybe you take the speedgoat and move on to the Mulies afterward. Again, just my two cents worth.
Either way, GOOD LUCK and please post your picks when ya get back.

Kinda what I was thinking, my buddy has never gotten a tag on this ranch for pronghorn and has always taken his buck in the 1st day or two. (says he will try to be more picky this year) his prior deer were average to smaller 20 inches +/- by the pictures. If there are pronghorns there I will have a tag!!

Well it sounds like you've made your mind up! If you can plug a Mulie in the first day or two then you have plenty of time to chase the pronghorn around (Or vice versa if ya spot that goat-of-a-lifetime before you fill that deer tag).

Again, good luck and let us know how the hunt ends.

Yeah, I guess the part about getting an Antelope tag was a "no brainer". I'd still love to hear if anyone has any experience in this unit. It's deer unit 158 and Antelope #25 or 26. We will be on a ranch (chambers), not too far from the town of Midwest. Thanks for the responses so far!! :thumb
