MY FIRST ELK!!!!
MY FIRST ELK!!!!
OK so this might not be the best but i am super excited about it. We went out Saturday and didnt see any sign, so we decided to try a different area. So sunday rolls around and we roll out off camp about 7:30 a little later than we wanted to. So were hiking and about an hour and it starts to snow pretty heavy, and we were about to go home but we didnt wanna go home with nothing so we kept going and me and my buddy we chatting how every shot we hear was coming form the south all of a sudden my buddy spots a bull about 200 yards neither of us had a shot on him so we start stalking him and we got about 300-500 yards following tracks and this bull walks in front of us about 50-80 yards and my buddy spots him first but since we had decided that i would shoot the first one he let him cross my path and as soon as he did i but a 300 win mag 180 grain bullet threw the lung and he dropped about 2 ft from there. i walked up on him and saw he was a decent 6x6. Ran into a couple of hunters that were very nice. And just want to say thank you to Jay (sweet) if he is on this board for helping some newbies. We were in the Uintas, and had him home by 2:30 today. Good luck to everyone else. Anyone guess what he could score?? I will try and get body shots in tomorrow my buddy has them on his phone.

Congrats to the newbie. I gleen from your story that Jay (sweet) helped you guys quarter the animal. Sound like a class act hunter out there. I believe there are many on this forum that would do the same for a newbie. Maybe you'll get to return the favor someday.
That is a great anybull bull. Enjoy you new story and the memories that will carry with it.

Alright so i did the measurements and i got 247 4/8 as a score. Maybe i will take it down somewhere and get an official score. Thanks for all the replies. I go back this weekend to hunt another one with my buddy.
